2008 Masters Coverage - Thru 4/15
Masters pressure possibly made itself felt across the Atlantic Ocean at the MAPFRE Open de Andalucía by Valle Romano. Peter Hedbloom entered the final round two shots back of third round leader Lee Westwood, and with hopes earning an invite to golf’s most elite party.
A win would have likely given him sufficient WGR points to break into the top 50. Maintaining that position for another week would have punched his ticket for Augusta. But Hedbloom soared to a final round 75 for a 12t, finishing nine shots out of a playoff. A 70, on the heels of rounds of 69, 67, 70 would have earned him a bundle of points, and made his job of qualifying that much easier next week. Now he’s got to win,
Bradley Dredge, another Masters hopeful, also carded a 75 to finish in 25t. He could still make it next week with a win or possibly a second.
The following European Tour players in the WGR’s top 100 will be in the field at the Estoril Open de Portugal next week. A win will likely be good enough for any of them to qualify for Augusta. It depends on the strength of the field, which determines the WGR points. The players and their WGR.
69 Bradley Dredge, 71 Peter Hanson, 76 Soren Kjeldsen, 77 Charl Schwartzel, 79 Simon Dyson, 86 Peter Hedbloom, 88 Steve Webster, 97 Ross McGowan, 98 Johan Edfors
